Shipwrecked

We have been learning how to write narratives. Here is a narrative I have written.

SHIPWRECKED
One morning Phoenix found herself floating on a piece of wood in the middle of the sea. Luckily Phoenix saw an island ahead so she swam like she meant it. As she got closer she could see the island more clearly and it looked clean like people had been looking after it. It had trees, coconuts and some little houses.

When Phoenix landed on the island she ran around the looking for someone, anyone that was around. Phoenix found two people in a house cracking coconuts. Phoenix thought she knew the people somehow, then it clicked the two people in the house were Tessa and Ariana. They were Phoenix’s best friends all through school. Phoenix decided to stay with them. They made something to sail back to the island that they sailed from.

From that day she went fishing and swam while the others cooked and cooled coconuts and mangoes. One day a strange ship was heading for the island. They got ready for battle and created weapons.

When the strange ship arrived they headed for them and began to ambush them on the shore. But then one yelled, "STOP! we have brought you presents. They dropped their weapons and said looked up. "Who are you?" said Phoenix. I am Bob, I'm Steve. I'm Stowy. I'm Gary. I'm Kevin. “You guys were my crew mates,” said Phoenix. "Yes we were,” said Bob. "Come and have some mango and coconut water with us," said Phoenix.

After a couple of days exploring the island Phoenix and her crew mates sailed home.

Autumn - camoe

Showing our Writing Process - Write Draft / Edit and Polish / Publish
Written Language - Cameo
Learning Intention: I am learning how to use appropriate and effective similes in my cameo writing.

Success Criteria:
I am able to find and highlight similes in a cameo and explain why they work.
I am able to write appropriate similes for objects in my cameo.

Here is an example: WINTER
Winter blows its cold breath everywhere.
The early morning frost greets you like being welcomed onto the marae.
The wind howls in the freezing air like a stray dog hungry for a bone.
Snowflakes flutter like leaves falling from autumn trees, covering the ground with a white sparkling blanket.
The trees become bare, brown bones standing like statues admiring the view.
Heavy rain falls from the sky like a thousand hooves pounding against the ground.
Chilly bitterness in the air, winter is here.
Here is my draft piece of writing!

                                              Autumn
The leaves make a colourful  blanket across the ground.
The leaves flutter to the ground like a piece of paper.(Do you need this one!!)
The leaves crunch under my feet as I run like a tiger.
Leaves skater everywhere in the wind.
Frost covering the ground slowly
Leaves flutter to the ground like a snowflake making a blanket.
The wind holes like a wolf that has lost it’s pack.
The trees stand like a statue.
Dew spotted everywhere like the spots on a spotty dog
Frost everywhere,  has finally come!!!!
Here is my published piece of writing
                                 Autumn

The leaves make a colourful  blanket across the ground.
The leaves crunch under my feet as I run like a tiger.
Leaves scattered everywhere in the wind.
Frost covering the ground.
Leaves flutter to the ground like a snowflake, making a blanket.
The wind howls like a wolf that has lost it’s pack.
The trees stand like a statue.
Dew spotted everywhere in the grass.
Frost everywhere has finally come!!!!
